Description
Interested in seeing ancient Greek and Roman objects up close? Want to learn how we record, illustrate and digitise ancient artefacts? Interested to know more about how objects like vases, statuettes and lamps come into our hands and what we learn from them? Come to the Classics Library in the University of London for this evening event at which you will:
· hear from experts on collecting, studying and digitising antiquities
· get hands on the ancient objects in the Ehrenberg Bequest, mostly Greek vases and statuettes, normally behind glass in the Classics Library
· discuss the objects, their history, and the methods by which we study them over refreshments
· get hands on! Handle ancient objects, learn techniques for illustrating, try out 3D imaging, see an object being 3D-printed in front of you
You will learn about Greek and Roman antiquities with an international team of experts from the British Museum, Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies and Institute of Classical Studies.
